Combining stylish looks with heart rate monitoring features, this larger Timex Personal Heart Rate Monitor watch (model T5G971) can be worn by both men and women. It features a chest strap heart rate monitor, easily accessible function buttons, durable resin case, and comfortable resin strap with a stylish tapered profile. For integrating heart rate monitoring into your training, this watch enables you to continuously track your heart rate during exercise as well as pre-set target heart rate zones with alarms that notify you when you are out of the zone. It also offers an automatic activity timer and a workout review that recalls activity time and average/peak heart rates. This streamlined watch also has a month/day/date display with 12/24-hour time.

The Indiglo night-light uniformly lights the surface of the watch dial using patented blue electroluminescent lighting technology. It uses less battery power than most other watch illumination systems, enabling your watch battery to last longer. The watch is water resistant to 30 meters (100 feet), which protects it from rain and water splashes. All Timex heart rate monitor sensors have batteries that can be replaced by consumers without requiring them to be returned to the manufacturer.

good watch/heart rate monitor and cal counter

I have had my watch for almost a year now and it still works really well. It needs new batteries here and there. I check that first when it starts acting up. That has always helped any problems I had. I would have given it 5 stars, but it is really hard to change the battery on the wrist watch. My husband has to help me with it every time. We have only changed that part twice in the year I have had it. I use it alot. I go to the gym at least 5 times a week and work out anywhere from an hour to 2 hours. I would recommend this watch to anyone who wants calorie/heart rate information during their workout. It also tells you your highs and lows of your heart rate during the workout. I think a great price for all that information.

Great for the price

This HR monitor is my fourth one, and I am glad I finally switched from Polar to Timex. My last two Polar F4s quickly delivered incorrect readings, and the battery died within a few months both times. You have to send the item back to Polar to replace the battery (in my case, from the West to the East Coast), and their customer service is simply atrocious.
As for the Timex, you can change the battery yourself, which is a big bonus. Plus, it's half the price of the cheapest Polar HR monitor. It is easy to set up and use; the display is easy to read and one can switch back between HR reading and time exercised / calories etc. easily. The unit also seems to give reliable readings, and it picks up the HR well if the strap is moist and snug enough (not the case for the Polar, either). I haven't used it in spin class or at the gym yet, so can't comment on interference. The watch is a little bulky for women, but not too bad. The only thing I do not like is the calorie reading, which is ridiculously high and completely unreliable. 700 calories for a 40-minute leisurely run? Wouldn't that be awesome?! Then again, most calorie readings at gym machines etc. are also inaccurate, so for me that's not a big deal.
Overall, a good bang for your buck.

Does the job

The heart rate monitor does exactly what it is designed to do. It is easy to use and the treadmill I use picks up the signals. Definitely worth the money.

I love my new heart monitor.

This is the first heart monitor I have owned and I couldn't believe
how easy it is to use. I picked it for the price and the fact that my husband could use it too.

The monitor worked well for 4 weeks. Then it began defaulting to the watch mode and gave off and on heartrate readings. Within a week it stopped altogether. I replaced the battery in the sending unit but it didn't help. I will be returning it.
